TOOL Frontman Talks PUSCIFER
October 20, 2007Jim Welte of MP3.com recently conducted a short e-mail interview with TOOL and A PERFECT CIRCLE frontman Maynard James Keenan about his new project called PUSCIFER. An excerpt from the question-and-answer session follows:
MP3.com: You've worked with a number of people on PUSCIFER, from Trey Gunn and Lisa Germano to Milla Jovovich and Jonny Polonsky. Was there a pattern as to how you connected with some of these people and collaborated, or was it different in almost every case?
Maynard: Generally speaking, it was the shotgun approach. But the online STD reports from the nationwide free clinics were a big help. Conducting research under the freedom of information act allowed me to blackmail the guilty into participating.
MP3.com: Did you make the beats on any of these tracks, or was your role more of vocalist and conductor for all of the various elements of it?
Maynard: I did everything. All of it. I even made the two-inch tape out of old cassettes. Not an easy task, but the super glue and scotch tape helped. I made all the guitars out of discarded prom night wicker furniture at a local community college wood shop. And all the drums I played on this project were made from old oatmeal containers and bungee cords. You believe me, right?
